One organization and two businesses were gave big boosts to the LaPorte Police Department and the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office K-9 programs with recent donations.

— The LaPorte Police Department hopes to add a second police dog to its K-9 program, which already includes valuable Officer Rambo. The Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1130, helped generously toward that effort with a $1,000 donation to the department’s K-9 Fund. If you want to donate, contact the LPPD at 362-9446.

— During the fall of 2017, Cannon’s Automotive Service and Condon and Christ Automotive Service joined to offer an automobile maintenance and service package for customers who gave a $50 donation toward the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing efforts to fight drug abuse in the county. On Feb. 20, 2018, employees and co-owners (John Alexander and Eric Smith) of Cannon’s Automotive Service presented the sheriff’s office with a check totaling $10,500. Sheriff John Boyd told the donors that the funds will go into the sheriff’s office K-9 Donation Fund to eventually purchase another K-9. “We are very fortunate to have been able to purchase our last two K-9’s by donations we have received not resulting at an additional cost to the taxpayers of LaPorte County,” Boyd said. “The recent donation by Cannon’s Automotive Service and Condon and Christ Automotive Service will allow for the purchase of another K-9 in the future.”
