LaPorte County Parks Dept. Community Awards honor 2 volunteers, 1 organization

Information from LaPorte County Parks

The LaPorte County Parks staff, Park Board and Foundation presented their annual community awards in February 2018 at Red Mill County Park:

Organization of the Year: Healthcare Foundation of LaPorte. Dan Kaminski, board member.

— The Healthcare Foundation of LaPorte was named Organization of the Year. The foundation is committed to making LaPorte County a better place to live; one of the many ways it does that is by helping to fund projects. Its most recent funding to LaPorte County Parks is for the construction of a half-mile trail at Luhr County Park, which will be built this year.

Steve King, Park Foundation Member, Outstanding Park Service Award

— LaPorte County Park Foundation member was given the Outstanding Park Service Award. Steve goes above and beyond when it comes to helping at the county parks. Each year he assists by taking care of several landscaping beds at Luhr. In addition, Steve was instrumental in spearheading a wonderful project: The park foundation donated a framed LaPorte County Parks poster to each public school throughout LaPorte County.

Delia Blair, Volunteer of the Year

— Delia Blair was honored as Volunteer of the Year. Delia has been a steady volunteer at the annual Pioneer Days program. She is willing to volunteer at any station and always greets park patrons with a smile. She also has helped with other programs throughout the year. Delia is also one of the caretakers at Red Mill and does an outstanding job cleaning the hall and restrooms on weekends.

Each of these award recipients has shown significant support of the parks and the community as a whole. On behalf of the staff, park patrons, and the park board, the parks department thanks all of the recipients for lending a helping hand and for their efforts to help provide quality county parklands.

WTG Volunteers rock!! I’m sure you get as much enjoyment as I do in helping. I love teaching the children young and old a new skill at Pioneer Days. Be proud of the work you have done and are doing. Well done.
