Your newest deputy ready to serve and protect: Bosco

LaPorte County Deputies Bosco and Jonathon Samuelson

Press release from LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office

In late 2017, Deputy Jonathon Samuelson was selected as the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office’s newest K-9 handler. On Jan. 5, 2018, Deputy Samuelson and other members of the sheriff’s office traveled to Vohne Liche Kennels near Peru, Indiana, to select a K-9. During that visit, Deputy Samuelson was united with his new partner, Bosco.

With the addition of Bosco, the sheriff’s office now has four K-9’s assigned to the Patrol Division.

On Jan. 16, 2018, Deputy Samuelson and Bosco began six weeks of training at Vohne Liche Kennels. They received training in the areas of tracking, apprehension and narcotics detection. On Feb. 23, 2018, they completed their training.

Samuelson has been employed by the sheriff’s office since March of 2014, currently assigned to the Afternoon Patrol Shift. Bosco is a 23-month-old Belgian Malinois.

Bosco was purchased with funds received from public donations not resulting in the use of any tax dollars or at any additional cost to the taxpayers of LaPorte County. The generous donations are an example of the strong partnership the citizens of LaPorte County share with the sheriff’s office.

“We are very excited about our newest acquisition,” Sheriff John Boyd said. “Now that Deputy Samuelson and K-9 Bosco have successfully completed their training together, we anticipate they will be making a difference and impact in the very near future with the other deputies assigned to the Afternoon Patrol Shift.”
