Start studying: Annual Community Spell Bowl is March 28

Get your spelling cap out. READ LaPorte County’s annual Spell Bowl is March 28 at the LaPorte VFW, 181 W. McClung Rd. This fun event is open to teams of up to four people, and hilarity often ensues. Don’t worry about embarrassing moments: All words are spelled on paper and handed in privately.

Word study lists are provided to teams to use if they want to get an edge on the competition. However, being a good speller is not necessary. Teams may instead go for the Spirit Award and decorate their table and clothing with a theme appropriate to their organization or family, or to literacy. Sponsors are also welcome.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m., but teams may enter as early as 6 p.m. to set up. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available. Prizes to the winning teams will be awarded at the end of the evening.

Registration and sponsorship forms are available at The cost is $50 for nonprofits and $100 for all other teams. Entry deadline is March 21. Observers and cheerleaders are welcome!
