LPHS musicians earn top honors

The LaPorte High School Winter Color Guard won the Scholastic Open Class at its contest Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Thornton Fractional South High School in Lansing, IL.  

Open Class results:

LaPorte                       78.3

Lake Central                70.3

The Slicers will travel to Lake Park High School in Roselle, IL, on March 10 to compete in the next Midwest Color Guard Circuit Contest.  LPHS will host the Midwest Color Guard Circuit Championships on April 7-8.

Also, the LPHS Jazz Band and Lab Band each received Gold Division ratings at the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Jazz Festival at Portage High School March 2-3. The Jazz Band was also designated as “With Distinction” due to its high score.  

The Boston and Kesling Middle School Jazz Bands also each received Gold Division Ratings, with the Kesling Jazz Band also being designated as “With Distinction.”  

Seventy-two bands, orchestras, combos and choirs from northwest Indiana participated in the annual event. Groups are evaluated by a panel of three judges and are awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze ratings, or a Participation Award. A Gold Rating is the best rating, with the Gold Rating with Distinction signifying the highest possible numerical scores.
