Get ready to plant: Master Gardeners’ Spring Garden Show is March 24

LaPorte County Master Gardeners will host a Spring Garden Show from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Michigan City High School, 8466 W. Pahs Rd. Adults and kids alike will enjoy special activities, demonstrations and more.

The cost to enter is $10 for adults; children under 12 may attend for free. Visit to purchase a discounted ticket for $8 ahead of time.

Keynote speaker Carol Michel will present two talks:

— “A Perpetual Spring in the Garden, with Late Fall, Winter, and Early Spring Blooms” from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

— “The Twelve Secrets to Happiness in Your Garden” from 1 to 1:45 p.m.

Other speakers will include Katie Burnett of Granor Farms, who will speak about organic vegetable growing with a focus on companion planting of vegetables and flowers; and Damien Appel of Native Roots Farm, who will focus on small-scale market farming.

Activities for children will include Karen Sarver presenting “The Magic in a Seed” for preschool through 3rd grade; Carol Lerner presenting “Taking Flight, Why Do Birds Migrate?” for children 8 years and older; and a Nature and Garden Yoga Class for children given by Juanita Hill.

Vendors, gift bags, door prizes and food will also be part of the day.
