Kesling 8th grader will compete in National Geographic State Bee

Kesling Middle School 8th grader Isaac Chezem knows his longitudes and latitudes. Isaac has qualified for the National Geographic State Bee.

Isaac, the son of Heather and Kyle Chezem, will be among about 100 competitors at the state bee on April 6, 2018, at the IUPUI Lecture Hall in Indianapolis.

This is the second level of the National Geographic Bee competition. School bees were held with students in grades 4-8 participating. After winning the school bee, Isaac completed a qualifying test that was submitted to the NG Society.

To celebrate its 30th bee, NG has doubled its cash prizes to winners. Each state champion will receive $200 and a trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the national bee. The national champ will receive a $50,000 college scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands aboard the new National Geographic Endeavour II. Second-and third-place finishers will receive $25,000 and $10,000 college scholarships, respectively.
