March 9, 1918 — The Interlaken 5 are eliminated by Plymouth 37-9 in basketball action. The Silver Lake Boys were not able to stop short passes and accurate shooting.

March 9, 1968 — About 65 out of 136 employees on the second shift at LaPorte’s Modine Manufacturing walked off their jobs at 6:30 p.m. yesterday. It has not been determined what promoted the action.

March 9, 1993 — More than a quarter of all current Indiana residents were born in other states and were lured here by an economy that outperformed those of neighboring states.

March 9, 2008 — Lee Schwinkendorf celebrates his 40th year of service in LaPorte’s Park and Recreation Department.
