Seniors rule! Adoption fees covered for both senior humans and senior pets at shelter, thanks to donation

Erin the calico and her new best friend, one of the success stories as a result of the senior adoption donation.

Thanks to a local couple who recognize the outstanding efforts of the LaPorte County Small Animal Shelter staff to save animals and find new homes for them, adoption fees are currently being waived for senior pets, senior adopters, or a combination of either.

The donors wish to remain anonymous. Their generosity is already being recognized in the first week of the sponsorships. So far: “Several cats are being adopted,” said shelter Director Jane Bernard. “It is truly helping us out with adoptions!”

“If you are a senior citizen and have been wanting a pet, come on in. We have many of all ages to choose from and the adoption fee has been paid. Also, if you are in the market for a senior pet, those have paid adoptions as well! What great people we have supporting our mission.”

For more information, call 219-326-1637 or visit the shelter at 2855 W. Ind. 2, LaPorte. Adoption hours are Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
