Museum spiffed up with new lighting, displays

The W.A. Jones Collection of Ancient Weapons gleams once again thanks to cleaning by the LaPorte City Police. (Photo provided)

Visitors to the LaPorte County Historical Society Museum in February 2018 came from 9 counties, 5 states and Scotland.

Events and new displays

The spring display — “Up, Up and Away: A Look at Aerial Photography of LaPorte County” — is up and running. The exhibit will be up for all of March, April and May. Half of the display is on the upper level and the other half is on the lower level. A handout that explains the photos is given to each visitor.

The LaPorte City Police came to the museum and cleaned the W.A. Jones Collection of Ancient Weapons. Many thanks to them for all their hard work.

Historical society President Bruce Johnson and Curator Susie Richter attended the LaPorte Chamber of Commerce Annual Luncheon.

School field trips are gearing up for the spring, and car groups are also starting to schedule visits to the museum. Car groups are asked to park their vintage cars in the circle in front of the museum so they can easily be seen from the highway.

The museum is getting new lighting. The period rooms are next on the list for being illuminated. What a difference it has made!

The downstairs showcase is being outfitted for spring with children’s Easter clothes from the past.
