April 9, 1918 — LaPorte has started toward the wartime liberty bond goal of $693,300 that it must reach before the close of the week.

April 9, 1968 — Last rights are held for Martin Luther King Jr. Tens of thousands of mourners march through the streets of Atlanta in a funeral procession. More than 50,000 throng around the church.

April 9, 1993 — James Brady, who was wounded in the 1981 assassination attempt on then-President Ronald Reagan, meets with Indiana Gov. Evan Bayh to urge vetoing of the bill to outlaw local gun ordinances.

April 9, 2008 — Postpartum depression can affect mothers for much longer than just a few weeks.
