Sign your kids up now for Sheriff’s Camp for youths in August

Girls and boys ages 9 to 14 from LaPorte, Porter, Lake and Jasper counties are invited to attend the 4th annual Northwest Regional Sheriff’s Camp on Aug. 7-9 at Indiana Dunes State Park.

Space is limited, so LaPorte County Sheriff John Boyd recommends that parents sign up their children ASAP. First-time camp attendees are especially invited; return attendees will be accepted as space allows.

Campers will attend from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and get to see and learn in such subjects as K9, SWAT, emergency helicopter use, crime scenes, team building, and more. The camp is organized by members of the Porter County, LaPorte County, Lake County and Jasper County sheriff’s offices, Indiana Department of Natural Resources and South Haven Fire and Rescue. Lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided each day.

Cost of the camp is $40 per camper. Applications may picked up at the front desk of the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, from any School Resource Officer, or from a local school corporation. Completed applications should be mailed to or dropped off at the Porter County Sheriff’s Office. Personal checks should be made out to the Porter County Sheriff’s Office, with “Sheriff’s Camp” in the memo section.
