April 27 garage sale will support LP Service League’s programs for community

To support its numerous community assistance programs and volunteer efforts, LaPorte Service League will hold a garage sale and bake sale at 701 W. 11th St., LaPorte, on Friday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The sale will include household items, clothing, toys, sporting goods, furniture, lots of miscellaneous items, and home-baked goods.

For 85 years, the independent women’s organization has enriched the LaPorte area, focusing on community programs, youth outreach and the arts. Members donate at least 50 hours of volunteer time each year, where they wear trademark pink shirts.

Besides performing an annual play for area students, LaPorte Service League awards special scholarships for LaPorte High School seniors. Other projects include providing preschool dental education, school tutoring, eye screening, Meals on Wheels deliveries, Salvation Army cooking, and comfort blankets.
