LaPorte Lions action, April 2018

LaPorte Lions met April 10, 2018, at Best Western Hotel. Boss Lion Paul Marsh led the Pledge of Allegiance and Sandra Provan offered prayer. Provan read the minutes of the March meeting, which were approved. The treasurer’s report was unavailable.

Marsh said the district convention went well. Sponsorships are coming in for the zone golf tournament May 25. Marsh, Diane Spoljoric and Barb Smeltzer will volunteer at the event; Provan and Dwight Graham will play. Lions will start to save container tops for Green Tree Plastics. A motion to spend up to $300 on diabetes strips and other items for Spoljoric’s mission to Nicaragua was approved.

The nominating committee presented the slate of officers for 2018-19: president, Ruda; 1st vice president, Smeltzer; 2nd vice president, Marsh; secretary, Provan; treasurer, John Spiggle; co-tail twisters, Spoljoric and Ken Schnable. The slate was read three times and approved. Officers training is May 5 at 9:30 a.m. in Kouts.

Using cell phones to test clients’ Lions Alert phones is working well. Suzanne Tobey will seek another leader for LaPorte High School Leo Club. The Leos are going to a nursing home every Thursday afternoon to spend time with residents and give them manicures.

Provan read a letter of thanks for the club’s $1,500 donation to the Lions Cancer Control Fund. Ruda said four Lions $1,000 scholarships will be presented to LaPorte High School graduating seniors April 26.

Tail twister Schnable brought in $50. The next meeting is May 8, 5:30 p.m. social, 6 p.m. business.

LaPorte Lions meet the second Monday of each month at the Best Western Hotel. Anyone interested in joining may call Marsh at 851-8821. For information on Lions Alert, call Laura at 326-2338.
