LaPorte Lions met May 9, 2018, at Best Western Inn. Boss Lion Paul Marsh led the Pledge of Allegiance and Sandra Provan offered prayer. She read the minutes of the April 10 meeting, which were approved. John Spiggle gave the financial report, which was approved.

Thank-you letters were received for donations from Leader Dogs for the Blind and Lions Clubs International Foundation.

Diane Spoljoric spent $361.57 of four glucometers and 2,000 diabetes test strips for her trip to Nicaragua. Since $300 had already been approved, a motion to pay the $61.57 passed. Spoljoric said the club’s donation had encouraged other people to donate supplies, too.

Suzanne Tobey has a couple of teachers in mind at LaPorte High School to lead the Leo Club there. A motion to continue the dictionary project for third graders passed. Tom Ruda said the scholarship presentation at LaPorte High School went well.

A motion to donate $600 to Camp New Beginnings, for children with incarcerated parents, passed. Buell passed around a sign-up sheet for Candy Days at Kabelin’s May 18-19. Provan will handle collections on May 19.

Marsh went to the state convention and said it was very informative. The international convention will be in Las Vegas June 29-July 3. Barb Smeltzer collected plastic caps from members; they will be put in the storage unit, which still needs to be sorted. Tailtwister Schnable brought in $5. Ten members, plus one guest, Adam Buell, attended.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, June 12, at 5:30 p.m. social, 6 p.m. business. LaPorte Lions meet the second Tuesday of the month at Best Western Inn. Call Marsh at 219-851-2281 for more information.
