May 12, 1918 — A Polish army is now on the western front fighting with the allies. Poles in the United States who are not naturalized American citizens are being enlisted in the Polish army.

May 12, 1968 — The United States and North Vietnam open preliminary talks with a Communist claim it had won the war and a U.S. proposal to restore the Demilitarized Zone.

May 12, 1993 — Bob Hope will celebrate his 90th birthday on May 29 with a televised party.

May 12, 2008 — Locals donate six tons of food in the annual LaPorte Post Office food drive.
