June 12, 1918 — Sixteen little Belgian orphans arrive on a train to LaPorte from a New York Catholic orphanage to await the coming of mothers of homes in Chicago, where they will be placed for adoption.

June 12, 1968 — Four convicts release their 21 hostages after a 27-hour ordeal at the Atlanta Federal Prison while other inmates scream and smash windows.

June 12, 1993 — With the NBA championship upon us, LaPorteans are firing up to support the team close to us in proximity and in our hearts—the Chicago Bulls.

June 12, 2008 — The LaPorte Board of Public Works and Safety receives bids for a federal program that pays for repair of dilapidated homes. Thirteen homes are being considered; 52 have been repaired previously.
