July 12, 1918 — Secretary Oakes of the local draft board has a list of 52 men who will leave LaPorte on a special train on July 23 for Camp Taylor, Ky.

July 12, 1968 — David R. Jonas, a 1966 LPHS graduate, is wounded in Vietnam by a mine explosion. Three of the 12 men in his squad were killed. He will be flown to a hospital in the U.S. next week.

July 12, 1993 — Tuition at Indiana’s public universities increased at nearly twice the inflation rate during the past decade. About 60% of next year’s applicants are expected to get some aid.

July 12, 2008 — Former LaPorte baseball pitcher Brad Mumma got traded from the Gary SouthShore RailCats, offering him an opportunity with the Schaumburg Flyers, where he has a 4-4 record.
