LaPorte County Genealogical Society news, July 2018

Twenty-one members and guests were present for the regular monthly meeting of the LaPorte County Genealogical Society at the LaPorte Park Department building on July 10.

Following the business portion of the meeting and refreshments provided by Patricia Harris, guest speaker Marlene Polster, a genealogy clerk at the Larry J. Clark Genealogy Center of the Porter County Public Library in Valparaiso, presented her program. Marlene has held positions with the Indiana Genealogical Society and the Northwest Indiana Genealogical Society (Lake and Porter counties).

Mrs. Polster illustrated ways to access data on the Family Search website via home computers and through family history centers, Family Search Centers, and Family Search Affiliate Libraries. Recent and ongoing changes in the delivery of this data call for new techniques to retrieve it.

On Aug. 14 the society will meet at 7 p.m. at the park department office off Pine Lake Avenue for a show-and-tell program. Members and guests will share new discoveries from their research into family history. The public is welcome.

More information about the society is available on Facebook and at http://lpcgs-blogspot.com.
