Update: Suspect arrested in 3 bank robberies

A Michigan City man has been charged with robbing two banks on July 31, 2018, and another bank on June 5.

Jason Cheek, 41, of Michigan City, was arrested after allegedly robbing his second bank of the day on July 31. The first robbery was in at 1st Source Bank in Michigan City and the second at Chase Bank in Portage. He is also charged with the June 5 Chase Bank robbery in Michigan City.

A 17-year-old male has also been arrested in connection with the robberies.

In the 1st Source robbery, a man entered the bank at about 3:17 p.m., demanded money and told the teller to hurry or he would start shooting. He fled on foot.

About an hour later, the Portage bank was robbed. Portage Police apprehended the individuals after spotting the car in which they were traveling.

The FBI Merrillville Office will take charge of the robbery investigations.
