Aug. 4, 1918 — A fire in the Studebaker garage, corner of Indiana Avenue and State Street, causes $100 worth of damages according to Jacob Rose, the proprietor.

Aug. 4, 1968 — The Republican National Convention opens with Richard M. Nixon holding a lead for the presidential nomination. But Nelson A. Rockefeller claims it still is “a ball game.”

Aug. 4, 1993 — In past years, local Department of Family and Children’s Service employees, because of state policies, have not been paid overtime when they worked it. That recently changed.

Aug. 4, 2008 — One person is killed when powerful winds and torrential rain sweep through LaPorte County.
