Aug. 6, 1918 — A couple finally receives a letter from their son in service in France after two months. He is the smallest man in his regiment and all the fellows keep a lookout for “Little Jimmie.”

Aug. 6, 1968 — Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 77, suffers his sixth heart attack at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Aug. 6, 1993 — The cost to renovate LaPorte High School would be almost $30 million, estimates say.

Aug. 6, 2008 — Alfonso Soriano belts a late three-run homer to lift the Cubs over the Astros.
