IU Health, LaPorte Hospital sever ties

Press release from LaPorte Hospital

LaPorte and Starke hospitals now will be governed by a single ownership structure.  In an amicable agreement today (Aug. 15, 2018), Indiana University Health sold its remaining minority interest in the joint venture and LaPorte and Starke hospitals will continue their focus on providing convenient, accessible care for residents in LaPorte, Knox and the surrounding communities.

“For many years, our physicians and staff have worked with IU Health to provide access and high-quality care for the community,” said Ashley Dickinson, CEO of LaPorte and Starke hospitals. “We appreciate the relationship we’ve had and look forward to working alongside them and other providers to improve the health of Indiana residents.”

“IU Health was pleased to continue its collaboration with LaPorte and Starke hospitals through the joint venture in March 2016,” said Joy Kleinmaier, senior vice president, IU Health, and chair of the joint venture board of directors. “We share a common mission to improve the health of Hoosiers and believe they will continue to serve the community well.”

Patients will continue to receive the same quality care from the hospitals’ skilled and compassionate colleagues and medical staffs. The hospitals’ boards of trustees comprising local community members and physicians will remain in place to continue to provide local oversight to the hospitals. The main change the community will notice is signage, brochures, and other materials will no longer use the trident symbol and language, “An affiliate of IU Health.”

Plans are progressing on building the new LaPorte Hospital, and a groundbreaking ceremony will be held Aug. 23, 2018.

I have a very bad feeling about this. A for profit company running a hospital with the company’s iffy financial problems does not bode well for LaPorte. Am checking with my insurance company about coverage.

Article says LaPorte and Starke hospitals will now be governed under a single ownership structure but they always seem to be very evasive as to exactly who owns the hospitals. Makes you wonder why they don’t want that known.

Will not affect my family at all. We have went out out of the county for treatment for years, ever since the so called emergecy room Doctors let my daughters appendix rupture in the er. All the while we were begging for help. We are very fortunate to be able to do so many can not.

I wish them great success. We are fortunate to have a hospital so close. There is good and bad everywhere in all situations. Let’s all hope for the best in this one.
