Slicer volleyball, tennis teams chalk up victories

The LaPorte Slicers volleyball team (1-0, 0-0) defeated the visiting Plymouth Pilgrims in straight sets, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17, on Aug. 14.

Leading the way offensively was senior Reilly Briggs with 12 kills. Freshman Aniya Kennedy added eight kills, with junior Lexi Joyner chipping in seven and Senior Kara Cooper with six.

The Slicers had it going on the service line with sophomore Olivia Voelker getting four aces, while sophomore Paige Conklin had three and freshman Lesley Marshall added two.

Defensively, senior Gillian Santana led the back row with 10 digs and 11 serve receptions, while Reilly Briggs added six digs and 11 serve receptions of her own. Annalise Warnock had 12 serve receptions. Junior Cheyenne Seymour, Briggs, and Cooper had three solo blocks each, while Kennedy led the team with four total blocks.

The Slicers head to Mishawaka Thursday to take on the Cavemen at John Young Middle School.

In boys tennis action, LaPorte blanked Marian 5-0 Aug. 14 in a home match. Singles and doubles results:

1S Andy Emmons over Joshua Bussan 6-1, 6-2

2S Quentin Spears over Dustin Greer 6-1, 4-6, 7-5

3S Tristan Poe over Caleb Svarez 6-1, 6-1

1D Graham Siefker / Alex Ake over Charlie Graham / Seth Beeker 6-1, 6-0

2D Carson Stalbaum / Liam Wolf over Jacob Kramer / Dominic Marazita 6-0, 6-0

In JV action, the Slicers defeated Marian 4-1.
