Sept. 7, 1918 — That LaPorte will have only one telegraph office in the near future looms today as one of the probabilities following the taking over by the government of the telegraph lines of the country.

Sept. 7, 1968 — Prep football is off to a roaring start. Highly favored Elkhart pulls out a 20-16 victory over smaller LaPorte with 24 seconds to go as nearly 6,000 ardent Slicer fans look on.

Sept. 7, 1993 — A Swedish newspaper gives five stock analysts and a chimpanzee $1,250 each to make money on the stock market. The chimpanzee wins by throwing darts at names of companies.

Sept. 7, 2008 — After spending about five years on the drawing board, site work may start this week on a building to house the County Extension and Solid Waste District offices at the fairgrounds.
