Sept. 13, 1918 — Two men transporting 28 gallons of whiskey, sour wine, and a half barrel of beer to thirsty denizens of South Bend — despite the fact that Indiana is supposed to be dry territory — are now in jail.

Sept. 13, 1968 — Union leaders from LaPorte’s principal industries meet with United Fund leaders to consider ways and means of involving a higher percentage of industrial employees in the campaign.

Sept. 13, 1993 — Charles Pavey, 44, is the new Westville Middle and High School principal.

Sept. 13, 2008 — The Behavioral Health Services Unit on the seventh floor of LaPorte Hospital will temporarily close because of a “critical staffing issue.”
