LP County man dies when his pickup truck overturns

A rural LaPorte County man was killed Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, when the pickup truck he was driving left the road, went down a steep embankment and overturned.

Daniel Harrington, 80, was pronounced dead at the scene after being partially ejected and pinned under the truck, according to a LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office report. The accident happened at about 5 a.m. on CR 400 N near CR 850 W in Coolspring Township.

Police said it appears Harrington’s 2002 Ford Ranger was traveling west on CR 400 N when it left the road and struck a guardrail to the right. It then traveled across the road and struck another guardrail before going down the steep embankment, rolling at least once.

Police said Harrington did not appear to have been wearing a seat belt.

Besides the sheriff’s office, emergency responders included LaPorte County EMS, LaPorte County Coroner’s Office, and Coolspring Fire Department.
