Oct. 8, 1918 — Schools will reopen tomorrow per permission granted by the state health officer, but persons with coughs and colds must remain away from schools, churches and places of amusement.

Oct. 8, 1968 — There should be joy in the children’s ranks in Monroe Manor today. The city council voted to purchase land for a children’s playground and baseball diamond there.

Oct. 8, 1993 — Agnes de Mille, who left her mark on Broadway and the ballet alike, dies at age 88.

Oct. 8, 2008 — A go-kart crash leads to major surgery for two Fish Lake teen boys.
