Press release from LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office

At approx. 11:30 a.m. this morning (Oct. 19, 2018), Michigan City Superior Courthouse security deputies Jon Keene and Aaron King were physically attacked by a man later identified at Joshua Duncan, 37, of Michigan City.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Duncan walked into the courthouse and as he entered the security check point, without provocation or warning he “sucker punched” Deputy Keene in the nose. He then turned toward Deputy King and began physically assaulting King. Deputy Keene drew his issued taser, deploying it on Duncan. As the fight continued, both deputies were eventually able to gain control of and handcuff Duncan.

With the assistance of the Michigan City Police Department, Duncan was transported to the LaPorte County Jail, where he was being held on two preliminary counts of Level 5 felony battery of a law enforcement officer.

Deputies Keene and King were transported to Franciscan Hospital Michigan City. Deputy Keene suffered a severe nose injury and Deputy King suffered minor scratches to his arms.

At this time, it’s unknown as to any motive, or as to why Duncan attacked these deputies.
