The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department reported many downed trees throughout the county Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, including two that fell on vehicles traveling on U.S. highways. Police said there were minor or no injuries in both of those accidents.

The National Weather Service’s high wind advisory was in effect through Saturday night at 9 p.m. “Northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph will gust to around 45 mph,” the NWS reported. “Showers are expected with isolated thunderstorms that may produce small ice pellets and even brief snow showers. No accumulation is expected, but visibilities could briefly be reduced. These stronger showers may also produce stronger brief wind gusts of 45-50 mph.”

The sheriff’s office asks folks to be patient as county, state and city road departments work to respond to calls for service regarding downed trees or branches.
