Read this and weep, for the best of reasons

Jesse and Dolly are ready to face the future together.

The LaPorte County Small Animal Shelter works miracles every day. But Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, was a particularly special day.

The shelter had posted this plea on its Facebook page Tuesday, Oct. 23: “Needing prayers tonight for Dolly, our longest shelter resident. She has a meet and greet tomorrow with a disabled combat veteran with PTSD and if all goes well, she will be going home with him to become his service companion. Let’s hope that ‘all good things come to those who wait’ holds true for Dolly tomorrow!”

Nearly 900 people responded in support to the Facebook post and more than 110 commented that they’d be pulling for Dolly and the veteran.

Then on Wednesday afternoon, the shelter posted this message and the photo above:

“Thank you to everyone who said a prayer for Dolly; it worked! Big shout out to Pets N Vets for stepping up to assist this veteran. Also, Lions Paws for Support for offering to help as well. And to the Kaluznys for sponsoring Dolly’s adoption fee. Be a good girl, Dolly! Any veterans looking to get an animal, these 2 organizations are more than willing to assist, as are we. We thank our faithful volunteers who walked Dolly daily to keep her mentally stable. You guys rock! We would love to place many more dogs with veterans.

“Last but not least, thank you, Jesse, for serving our country so we can have our freedom.”

And thank you, shelter staff, for making this happen.

Perfect title. Tears. Even with all the wonderful help for Dolly and our disabled Veteran, I’m thinking it all goes back to Jane Bernard. She is a gem, working at the shelter, giving of herself for people and animals.
