The historic Rumely building has a new resident, one with a flair for style.

You-nique Bou-tique “stirs echoes of a bygone era with brand-new fashions and trends,” states a press release from the new business.

The Greater LaPorte Chamber of Commerce will administer a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the boutique, 800 Michigan Ave., at 1 p.m. Friday, June 10. “You Bou,” as owner Julie Berry and her patrons call it for short, will host a Grand Open House Friday after the ceremony and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., when everyone is welcome for punch and cookies.

The shop more quietly opened in April. “We were still hanging new inventory and styling our displays” said Berry, “but so many people were popping by and trying to get in, we decided to open before our official grand opening!”

Berry has additional You-Bou locations in Shipshewana, IN, and Mesa, AZ. She decided to open a third shop in LaPorte because “I lived on Pine Lake North for 13 years and have always felt a connection with this small town with a big heart. We hope the community will embrace us so we can be a stable, long-term option for fashionable ladies.”

This isn’t the first time an apparel shop has graced the main floor of the Rumely, which used to house such shops in its original life as a hotel.

The boutique’s corner windows at Michigan and Jefferson presently display mannequins sporting fashionable red, white and blue scarves. The boutique offers brand-new fashions and eclectic jewelry. “Our style is vintage-inspired,” said Fashion Stylist Chrissy Berry. “Ruffles, layers, lace and crochet; very feminine and extremely pretty. I love to help our customers pull together a special outfit or suggest an embellished top that works well with a beloved skirt for a fresh new look.”

With a bit of room to grow, You Bou showcases several girlfriend/daughter gift lines and will soon launch Shu Bou, a separate salon highlighting the newest in shoes, sandals, boots and handbags. And then there’s Beau Bou, a selection of male-centric gifts.

Regular business hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10-5; Thursday, 11-7; and Saturday, 10-4.

What a beautiful boutique! I stopped by recently and was delightfully surprised to see such an upscale shop in LaPorte. Best wishes to Ms. Berry on adding this interesting new business to the downtown.

I recently visited again during the Sunflower festival (I didn’t realize the store had moved) and loved everything about the place. I was made to feel important and given wonderful advice and help in selecting some outfits for my trip to Boston. Loved the shoes and will definitely be back (and with friends) to shop some more. Thank you ladies for a wonderful experience.
