LP County Drug Task Force releases stats on drug and gun confiscations, arrests during 2017

During 2017, the LaPorte County Drug Task Force confiscated nearly 3 pounds of cocaine, about 2.25 ounces of heroin, about 3.4 ounces of methamphetamine, about 10 pounds of marijuana, about 3.3 ounces of synthetic marijuana, about .35 ounces of Ecstasy, and about 2.3 pounds of controlled-substance pills.  

In addition, in its first full year the task force — comprised of officers and investigators from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan City Police Department, LaPorte City Police Department, Indiana State Police, and the ATF:

— made 299 controlled-narcotics purchases

— arrested 175 people

— executed 21 search warrants

— seized 32 guns from felons

“The LaPorte County Drug Task Force continues to aggressively investigate the illegal sales of narcotics and firearms in our community,” Sgt. Andy Hynek, commander of the task force, stated in a press release. “We are pleased with the first year’s results and look to build on that success in 2018 in partnership with The LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office.”

The task force encourages citizens to report suspected illegal activity via the countywide tip line, (219)-873-1488.

    That is absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for the time and effort you have put into this. My daughter is now 19 months clean. Thank you for your services. I really do appreciate you making La Porte a little more safe for my grandchildren.
