Feb. 9, 1918 — The casualty list for the SS Tuscania, torpedoed by a German U-boat, places the total number of dead at between 160 and 170, including 149 American soldiers.

Feb. 9, 1968 — South Carolina State College suspends classes and urges students to stay in dorms in the wake of a bloody battle between patrolmen and students that claimed three lives and injured 36 persons.

Feb. 9, 1993 — The Michigan City School Board reverses itself by voting to keep both Rogers and Elston high schools open.

Feb. 9, 2008 — There are similarities between the shootings at the Kirkwood, Illinois, City Council and the shootings of LaPorte Mayor A.J. Rumely and his wife Frances 26 years ago.
