LaPorte Lions action, Feb. 13, 2018

LaPorte Lions met Feb. 13, 2018, at Best Western in LaPorte. Boss Lion Paul Marsh led the Pledge of Allegiance and Sandra Provan offered prayer. Marsh welcomed guests, Dist. Gov. Robin Smith, Adam Buell, Diane Spoljorik and Linda Dilks, who thanked the club for providing a lift to enable her to get her husband in and out of the house.

“It’s a miracle; thank you,” she said.

A motion to give a $100 gift certificate to the technician who got the lift working, who did not submit a bill (he is a South Bend Lion), was approved.

Provan read the minutes of the Jan. 9 meeting, which were approved. A motion to raise the reimbursement for eyeglasses from $100 to $150 was approved. Marsh thanked Lion Ken Schnable for designing the one-page ad in the district convention booklet. The convention will be at Best Western in La Porte March 16-17. A motion for the club to buy 30 raffle tickets for the event was approved.

Thank-you notes were received from Bernita Liberatore, Hailmann and Crichfield elementary schools, Lion Rita Mrozinski, and from a Lions Alert client’s family.

Dist. Gov. Smith talked about her theme, “Touching Lives Through Service.” Her daughter is blind and “sees” things through touching them. She encouraged Lions to invite family and friends to become Lions.

“There’s so much to learn in Lionism,” she said, and urged members to attend the district convention.

She presented membership milestone pins to John Straub, 10 years; Dwight Graham, 15 years; Tom Ruda, 30 years; and Doug Buell, 35 years; and a Centennial Service Challenge patch to the club. She reminded the club that dues must be paid by March 1 for the club to be able to vote at the district convention.

A nominating committee of past presidents will meet to present a slate of officers. Spoljorik gave information about New Beginnings, a camp for children whose parents are or have been in jail.

Tailtwister Schnable brought in $4.50.

The next meeting will be March 13
