March 6, 1918 — After a nine-hour chase near Hartford City, Ind., two cousins attempting to steal a team of horses are dead. They agreed to end their own lives rather than submit to capture.

March 6, 1968 — President Johnson asks Congress to take steps to assure American Indians a standard of living equal to others. He calls the plight of descendants of first Americans a “shocking situation.”

March 6, 1993 — Actor Nick Nolte, preparing for the role of basketball coach in the movie “Blue Chips,” is in Bloomington watching Indiana University’s Bob Knight at work.

March 6, 2008 — The LaPorte Police Department responds to about 28,000 calls for service each year.
