Ben Bachmann is New Prairie High School’s new athletic director

New Prairie United Schools has hired Ben Bachmann as Director of Athletics for New Prairie High School, beginning in July 2018.

Bachmann, currently serving as athletic director at Hanover Central High School, brings a rich background of experiences to lead New Prairie High School Athletics. Bachmann is a 1993 graduate of Michigan City Elston High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete in cross country, basketball and baseball.

Bachmann competed as a pitcher at the college level, earning All-American honors at Kankakee Community College, then finished at Division II Lewis University, where he earned Academic All-Conference Honors. He then began a 15-year college coaching career in baseball, including serving as pitching coach and/or recruiting coordinator at Lynn University, the University of Maryland for five years, Miami University (OH) for seven years, and finally at the University of Evansville. Returning closer to home in 2013, Bachmann has served in high school athletics administration for five years, most recently at Hanover Central.

Bachmann holds a master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Athletics Administration.

“I would like to thank Dr. White, the NPUSC School Board of Trustees, Mrs. Sass and the interview committee members for this opportunity,” Bachmann said in a press release. “The New Prairie United School Corporation has an excellent reputation. My family and I are excited and fortunate to become members of the community. I’m looking forward to working with the coaches, staff and student-athletes at New Prairie to help further our success in both the academic and athletic classrooms.”

Dr. Paul White, NPUSC Superintendent, said, “This is a great day for New Prairie High School and our athletics program. Mr. Bachmann has credentials and experiences that are second to none, plus he has a demonstrated skill set that fits exactly what we were looking for to move our athletic programs forward. His people skills and character are even better than his credentials.  He has a wonderful family and with being from this area, I think this hire is a perfect fit both for the Bachmanns and NPUSC.

Bachmann was unanimously approved by the NPUSC Board of Trustees for a two-year contract to begin in July 2018.
