Compiled by Mary Hedge, LaPorte County Public Library

May 11, 1918 — There is a scheme for raising the level of Pine Lake to conserve and increase the present supply of water.

May 11, 1968 — In West Virginia, 15 grimy but happy coal miners ride a conveyor belt to freedom through a partially flooded mine shaft that had been their prison for nearly five days. Some of them were near collapse.

May 11, 1993 — Lawmakers are voicing increasing support for a plan to permit homosexuals to serve in the military as long as they don’t openly state their sexual orientation.

May 11, 2008 — Even though it has a deli, a bar, a Pac-Man machine and a photo booth, Urban Thunder is technically a LaPorte clothing store for teens and adults in their 20s and 30s.
