UPDATE JUNE 7: Woman crawled under tanker truck before being run over

UPDATE JUNE 7 FROM MCPD: Police said no charges will be filed against the tanker driver, Carley Peel, 23, of Bradenton, FL, after her truck rolled over and killed Pamela Nadel, 61, of LaPorte. A witness told police that Nadel crawled under the parked tanker in the lot of King’s Inn before Peel left the lot. Peel told police she had no idea Nadel was under the truck and didn’t realize her back wheels had run over her when Peel was leaving the lot. A witness also told police that she had seen Nadel earlier that morning trying to kneel in front of another semi on Kieffer Road.  


UPDATE JUNE 6 FROM MCPD: “With the assistance of the public and through our Traffic Division investigation, the truck and driver involved in this tragic incident have been located. Both the owner and driver of the semi-truck are cooperating with the investigation. Chief Mark Swistek would like to thank all the concerned citizens of LaPorte County for their assistance in this matter.”

(The victim has been identified as Pamela Nadel, 61, of Charlotte, N.C. Police did not release the driver’s name.)  


A woman was struck and killed by a tanker truck in a parking lot along Kieffer Road in Michigan City June 5, 2018, at about 9:40 a.m.

The woman, whose name has not yet been released, was found in the parking lot at King’s Inn, 200 Kieffer Rd. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses saw the red tanker truck (see photo), possibly driven by a white female, which left the scene after striking the woman in the parking lot. Michigan City Police are seeking the driver. The truck was last seen traveling south toward I-94.
