June 14, 1918 — First Baptist Church tenders a farewell to its clergyman, who is going into YMCA war work.

June 14, 1968 — U.S. Attorney Gen. Ramsey Clark says the gun control proposal would save thousands of lives immediately. The president of the National Rifle Association argues it wouldn’t save a single life.

June 14, 1993 — A Chicago furniture company purchases Kingsley Furniture Co. and plans to keep it operating in LaPorte.

June 14, 2008 — Actor Sean Astin will be this year’s Grand Marshal for the Jaycees Fourth of July Parade.
