UPDATE JULY 5: Both women injured in the house fire/explosion have died. Lois Plotner, 72, died July 4 at a Chicago area hospital, according to LaPorte Fire Chief Andy Snyder. A family member confirmed that the second woman, Tracy Swanson, 52, died at about 3 p.m. July 5 at a Chicago-area hospital. Snyder said the fire’s cause is believed to be a natural gas explosion.

LaPorte firefighters responded to a home in the 200 block of Woodward Street shortly before 8 a.m. July 4, 2018, for a house fire. Two women inside the house were hurt; both were transported to LaPorte Hospital, then taken by medical helicopters to other facilities. The fire’s cause is under investigation. Firefighters quickly had the fire under control.
