Sept. 12, 1918 — There is a gold star on the service flag for another fallen boy. Rhen Hilkert, 28, New Durham Township soldier, was killed in action. He has two brothers in the service.

Sept. 12, 1968 — Sen. Everett M. Dirksen and Rep. Gerald R. Ford have no evidence to back up the charge from GOP vice presidential nominee Spiro Agnew that Hubert H. Humphrey is “soft on communism.”

Sept. 12, 1993 — Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization sign an accord promising self-government for Palestinians.

Sept. 12, 2008 — Nine hundred marijuana plants worth nearly $1 million were found and cut down in Galena Township.
