Cooperative Extension Agent Eugene Matzat receives Distinguished Service Award

Eugene A. Matzat recently received the 2018 Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of County Agriculture Agents during its annual meeting in Chattanooga, TN. This award is given to agents with more than 10 years of service in Cooperative Extension who have exhibited excellence in the field of Extension Education. This award is presented to only 2% of the County Extension educators in Indiana each year.

Matzat serves LaPorte County. Twenty-four years ago he began his Extension career as a watershed-based water quality specialist working with livestock farmers. He has also served SWCDs as an Extension soil conservation specialist. He now coordinates an active Master Gardener program, works with a team to conduct the annual Pinney Purdue Field Day, and initiated Crops Diagnostic Training for ag professionals. Gene is a Certified Crop Adviser and assists with Indiana’s state CCA conference. He developed irrigation programs for LaPorte County, which has the most irrigated cropland in Indiana.
