Oct. 12, 1918 — The Yankees get a taste of German cooking northwest of Verdun. Four German cooks with a rolling kitchen came into the American lines. The Americans forced them to prepare breakfast.

Oct. 12, 1968 — A photo of St. Paul United Church of Christ on Lincoln Way duplicates a famous, old London scene at about 7 this morning with heavy fog and cars with headlights on.

Oct. 12, 1993 — In the time that has passed since LaPorte last approved a city zoning ordinance, citizens have seen nine U.S. presidents come and go, so the plan commission has a new recommendation.

Oct. 12, 2008 — People in New Carlisle are hoping that a kiosk commemorating the old Lincoln Highway will help bring economic growth to their town.
