Sue Mills, 1928-2018

Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, is handling the arrangements for Sue Evelyn Mills, 90, of LaPorte, formerly of New Haven, IL, who passed away peacefully at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

She was born August 11, 1928, in New Haven, IL, to Jake and Lora (Goforth) Wood.

Sue was a former member of United Presbyterian Church and formerly owned Mills Café, both in New Haven, IL. She enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening. Sue formerly resided at Settler’s Place and most recently at Miller’s Health and Rehabilitation, both in LaPorte. She was a beloved mother, sister and grandmother.

On December 7, 1946, in Henderson, KY, she married Everett Mills, who preceded her in death.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; three sisters, Opal Cox, Zola Myers and Jean Hale; and two brothers, Otis Wood and Donald “Don” Wood.

Surviving are six children, Russell (Linda Vite) Mills of Mishawaka, Indiana, Ann Murray of LaPorte, John (Donna) Mills of Hudson Lake, Indiana, Michael (Joni) Mills of Evansville, Indiana, Lori (Roger) Sudlow of LaPorte, and Tim (Carrie) Mills of New Carlisle, Indiana; two brothers, Ted Wood of Carmi, IL, and Jim (Grace) Wood of New Haven, IL; five grandchildren, Kayla, Justin, Kenneth (Lisa), Felicia and Madeline Mills; and four great-grandchildren, Emma, Ayden, Josalyn and Laci.

A funeral celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 20, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, with Pastor George Bond officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held from 12 p.m. until the service Saturday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 12 noon Monday, October 22, at Union Ridge Cemetery, Norris City, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Beacon Health Foundation, Attn: Mary Beth Deitch, 615 N. Michigan St., South Bend, IN 46601, in memory of Sue Evelyn Mills.
