Oct. 30, 1918 — The U.S. has 20,000 Austrian prisoners.

Oct. 30, 1968 — Allis-Chalmers will acquire the Standard Steel corporation, which manufactures items such as small kilns and rotary driers and coolers not currently made by Allis-Chalmers.

Oct. 30, 1993 — Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and her children Caroline, 35, and John Jr., 32, were at the opening of the JFK Library’s renovated museum that will help educate those too young to remember the assassination.

Oct. 30, 2008 — MonoSol, a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant on Genesis Drive chosen for LaPorte because of its ideal location, held its ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday.
