Man holds gun to employee’s head during MC Taco Bell robbery


Two Michigan City residents were arrested two days after the Taco Bell at 3936 Franklin St., Michigan City, was held up on Nov. 13, 2018, at about 8 p.m.

Michigan City Police said a man entered the restaurant and told employees to open the cash register as he held a gun to the head of one of the employees. The suspect removed an undetermined amount of money from the register and fled. He was in a light-colored vehicle driven by a woman.

After working on leads Nov. 14 with the help of LaPorte County Sheriff’s officers, the suspects were identified as Joseph Barnes, 34, and Melinda Hunt, 29, both of Michigan City. The two


were arrested Nov. 15. Barnes is charged with robbery, a Level 3 felony, and Hunt is charged with aiding, inducing or causing a robbery, a Level 3 felony.

    Hats off the the police for catching these two burrito bandits. Hopefully it’s an open and shut quesadilla and they spend a long time behind bars. Glad no employees were hurt.
