It’s official: Santa’s in the house

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, at least along Lincolnway as Santa Claus was ushered into the Maple City Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018. As national TV news clips showed the chaos of Christmas shoppers battling for bargains, the true Christmas spirit was displayed in downtown LaPorte as children hustled for candy being tossed, then offered some to kids not quick enough to nab some sweets. Some parade participants traveled many miles from central Indiana and Ohio to drive their slingshot motorcycles and hand out goodies. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be in his chalet at Plaza 618 (corner of Lincolnway and Monroe) to visit with kids on Saturday, Dec. 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Santa’s helpers pause for a photo.

“Am I supposed to like this guy?” A baby looks more than a little skeptical as she visits with Santa.

It’s a mutual admiration society as a little fella greets Santa in his chalet.

A little giggle and a thumb’s up.

A little Cjhristmas enthusiast gets a kiss from her dad.

The Lions greet folks along the parade route.

“Lucy Van Pelt” of “Peanuts” fame stands next to her booth offering “psychiatric help, 5 cents.”

Doesn’t get more LaPorte than this.

Mrs. Claus waves hello.

A youngster enjoys some treats while watching the festivities from an adult’s shoulders. (Good move on the adult’s part to wear a sweets-repellent hat.)

Youngsters march down the parade route.

A LaPorte school bus becomes a “cool bus” (see front top sign) and dons some Rudolph gear to usher in the season.

Great pictures! I especially love the baby and Santa checking each other out.
