Carol Smith, 1940-2018

Carol Smith, 78, of LaPorte, IN, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.

She was born Feb. 19, 1940, in LaPorte, the daughter of Harold Laughrey and Gabrielle (Stassel) Laughrey.

Carol was treasurer of the trustees committee for Door Village United Methodist Church and supported the New Day Foundation. She enjoyed watching “Wheel of Fortune,” holiday Hallmark movies, and cooking shows. She loved to cook and do word searches, but most of all she loved her granddogs.

She is survived by her two sons, Jeff (Kristen) Smith of St. Petersburg, FL, and Jay (Michelle) Smith of Fishers, IN; and four granddogs, Creanie, Penny, Allie and Olie.

Carol was preceded in death by both her parents and her brother, Doug Laughrey.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 8, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Door Village United Methodist Church, 3502 W. Joliet Rd., LaPorte. A life celebration will follow at 10 a.m. at the church with Rev. Robert Denney officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte. Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.

    Carol had a great sense of humor and a great smile! Glad to have known her for many years.
