Dec. 8, 1918 — Workers at the Red Cross headquarters are needed to make sheets, pillow cases and nightgowns for the influenza emergency. The call is very urgent.

Dec. 8, 1968 — The Supreme Court opens the way for Louisiana to try Clay L. Shaw on a charge of conspiring with Lee Harvey Oswald and others to assassinate President John F. Kennedy.

Dec. 8, 1993 — Area celebrities at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame reception here included Pete Luther, Irv Swanson, Doug Adams, John Kunze and Ike Tallman.

Dec. 8, 2008 — Gas prices go down to as low as $1.21 in an area price war.
